3-inch pots

Plant starts sold in our 3-inch pots are certified organic by Oregon Tilth. Organic seeds (or untreated and non-GMO seeds when we cannot find an organic seed for a variety we like,) and organic growing methods are followed.

Earth Pots/Plugs

The earth pot plugs that we use are no longer certifiable through Oregon Tilth. When we began growing plant starts in 2010, these plugs were certifiable through the organic standard, but a component of the glue in the thin paper that binds the outer part of the soil is no longer allowed by Oregon Tilth. The soil mix is organic, the seeds are organic (or untreated and non-GMO when cannot find an organic seed for a variety we like.) The same organic practices are used to grow the earth pots plugs that are used for the 3-inch pots, our produce and tea.

We LOVE the earth pot style of plant start, and we know many of our customers do as well. Because the component in the paper is such a tiny part of the overall plug, we still feel this product is environmentally friendly and falls squarely under the ethical framework we apply to our growing practices.

If you are a certified organic farm, these plugs do not qualify as a certified organic product and we encourage you to talk to your certifier if you intend to plant these plugs and seek organic status. For more information, please contact Elizabeth elizabeth@mintogrowers.com
