How does a CSA work

How does the CSA work?

Registration opens around mid February each year - first to returning members, then to the previous year’s waitlist. Registration remains open until we reach our target number of shares. After that, we keep a waitlist, and in many years, we are able to add some people around July.

When you register, you select:

  • Share size (Full or Partial)

  • Packed share or Market-Style share

  • Summer season (19 weeks, June through mid October) and/or Winter season (8 weeks, two per month, late October through early February)

  • Add-ons (bread, coffee, eggs, flowers, food equity contribution)

  • Pick-up location (farm or off-farm in the Salem area)

  • Payment plan (pay in full, 2 installments, 3 installments)

  • Payment method (check, e-check, SNAP/EBT)

Beginning the first week of June, the farm crew begins picking, packing, and delivering fresh produce to your pick-up location. You, the CSA member, pick up your produce after 4 PM. Each share is packed with care and provides you the most diversity of our best produce to enjoy.

If you are looking for more choice and diversity in your CSA share, try the Market-Style pick-up option at the farm, which is every Wednesday or Friday from 4-7 pm (Summer season) and Thursday from 4-6 PM (Winter season). With the help of the farm crew, you pack your own share, from a combination of fixed options and choice options.

Weekly pick-up reminders help you remember to pick up your share.

Two Delivery Holds are available to each CSA member during the Summer season. You select an alternative future CSA delivery date to receive a make-up share (double box), or you can request a Vacation Voucher. Vouchers can be used during the Summer season at the Farm Stand or Food Cart.

A weekly CSA newsletter lists the produce in packed shares and the fixed items for Market-Style members. The newsletter often includes harvest photos, farm news, produce information, and recipes.

One to two farm events each year for CSA members provide a great way to connect with your local agricultural system, get to know the farm crew, and see how your produce is grown!
