What is Market-Style CSA pick-up?

In the traditional CSA model, your share is pre-packed.

Market-Style pick-up provides much greater flexibility and is designed for those CSA members who want more choice in what goes into their share each week. We offer two pick-up days for the Market-Style option, Wednesday and Friday (Summer season) and Thursday only (Winter season). For each pick-up, an assortment of produce is set up, and members pack their own share with a combination of "Fixed" and "Choice" items (staff are there if you have questions or need help). Having Fixed items allows the farm crew to harvest larger quantities of in-season items.

Fixed item policy: MIG strongly encourages members to take the Fixed items each week. Items not taken can result in a financial loss for MIG. Fixed items are a key part of MIG’s CSA approach for Market-Style share. If a member has an allergy or other medical restriction, they may skip a Fixed item and select a Choice item instead. If a member strongly dislikes a Fixed item, the member may skip the item; if the member wants to swap it for a Choice item, they should ask MIG staff (if present).

Choice items: members can select what they love, and leave what they don't. Staples, like kale and carrots, and abundant seasonal items, like tomatoes, will almost always be available as choices when in season. If there is a week that you're unable to come during the pick-up window, we can pack a share for you, if we are notified ahead of time. 

During the Wednesday and Friday Summer pick-ups, our food service is open to CSA members and to the general public. The Wednesday and Friday pick-ups are also a great time for families to come and enjoy the farm - to walk around the farm once a week, play on the outdoor playground, or meet other CSA families.

If you are interested in the Market-Style model, we encourage you to choose it as your primary pick-up location, knowing that you can change back to a traditional packed share.
