what types of vegetables

What types of vegetables are in your CSA?

Participating in a CSA is all about experiencing the unique bounty that every season has to offer. Nothing in agriculture is guaranteed due to the complexity of factors such as weather, pests, soil, and much more, but with fifteen years of experience under our feet, we have a good sense of what you can expect!

While the CSA is about trying new things and discovering new ways of enjoying familiar vegetables, we also want you to be able to rely on consistent favorites like carrots, broccoli, tomatoes, potatoes, and of course - fruit! When our strawberries and blueberries are in season, they go straight into your CSA shares first. We occasionally purchase additional fruit from other farms to put in the CSA, including apples, black berries, and grapes.

See below for the approximate frequency of different vegetables in your share. Because the Winter shares are delivered every other week, and the seasonal vegetables are more limited, certain vegetables appear more frequently during the Winter season.

Beets - 2-4 times/season. For winter season, 3-4 times.

Beans, green - 2-4 times per Summer season.

Blueberries - Most weeks from late June to early August, 1-2 pints depending on share size.

Broccoli, Cauliflower, Cabbage (green, red, and savoy) - A head from this brassica group appears nearly every week or every other week. Broccoli is the most frequent; cabbage is more frequent during the Winter season.

Carrots - About every 2-3 weeks during the Summer season. Almost every other week during the Winter season. We LOVE carrots and grow them well.

Celery or celery root - Sept-Oct - 3-4 times. 3-4 times during the winter season.

Corn - Almost every week from August-September, around 6 times.

Cucumbers - Almost every other week mid June - September.

Eggplant - Around 3-5 times during the summer season.

Kale and Swiss Chard - 6-8 times/year (these greens are incredibly nutritious!). For winter CSA, kale almost every share.

Kohlrabi - 4-5 times per Summer season. 2-3 times for Winter shares.

Garlic - Around 5-8 times summer season. Garlic scapes and green garlic 1-3 times in the beginning of the summer season. Most weeks during the Winter season.

Herbs - Parsley, dill, cilantro and basil throughout the summer season. Almost every share will have one herb. During the winter season, shares will have rosemary, thyme, and parsley.

Potatoes - Around 5 to 8 times in the summer season. Almost every week during the Winter season.

Lettuce or salad greens - Almost every week, less during the late Summer and late fall.

Melons, muskmelon - Around 3 times in the summer season.

Onions, scallions, shallots, or leeks - Around 8 - 10 times summer season. An item from this group almost every week during the Winter season.

Spinach - 3-6 times per season.

Strawberries - Around 3 times during spring flush, 1-3 more times in mid to late summer.

Tomatoes - Almost every week from mid July to mid October. We provide cherry tomatoes, slicers, and heirlooms.

Tomatillos - Varies year to year, we hope for at least once during each Summer season.

Specialty greens (arugula, mustard greens, etc.) - 5-8 times; mostly spring and fall as they like cooler weather.

Peppers - Every two or three weeks from mid to late August until mid October.

Radishes - 3-4 times per year in the early summer and fall.

Summer squash - July-Sept, 6-8 times each Summer season.

Turnips (salad)- Also known as Hakurei Turnips, around 2-3 times per summer season. Once or twice in the winter season.

Turnips (Purple Top)- 2-3 times in the winter season.

Winter Squash - 2-3 times in the summer season. Every week during the Winter season.
